Andromeda

I'll be honest, few things really get me as excited as seeing bad cases turned good - particularly when they involve lots of clean lines, lights and a bit of white paint. It's very retro, so
2002.
Fortunately,
Thacrudd is more than happy to deliver on just that. It's a bit like
Edeijo's awesome
Carbon Li, only starting with a much worse case and lacking all the watercooling. For now, at least.
I'm not exactly sure where exactly
Thacrudd dragged this case out of, but whatever depths it was born from could have certainly reclaimed it and the world would have been a happier place. Of course, that would mean that this mod never happened, and
that could be quite a shame.
It's cheap - but it's very,
very far from cheerful. In fact, it's ugly as sin. It's a good thing that this throwback to Compaq Presarios is about to get an overhaul like it never dreamed of.
"Ugly front? Meet bondo. Bondo? Meet ugly front. You two should get to know one another." A bit of bondo, a bit of sanding, lather, rinse, repeat.
The space-age theme needs some space-age lines and materials to go with it, and what better place to start than the PSU? A bit of hacking, slashing, some open mesh and a paintjob later, and
Thacrudd had a very nice looking futuristic PSU...
Most spots on the case's interior have been given some type of treatment, including some ducting built out of aluminum and a couple cross-bar shields that are created from smoke acrylic.
Andromeda sure has come a long way from the primed and bondo-covered mess that it started as.
It seems like
Thacrudd has finished with it (for now), but I'll spare showing all the final pictures here and instead wish you a safe trip over to his
worklog, where you can see a lot more little extras that this write-up had to pass over!
While you're taking a trip into the forums, why not take a moment to
vote for Andromeda as the Mod of the Month for July?
